Researchers at the University of Texas at Austin had volunteers drink either the 8 ounces of pomegranate juice or a placebo. Then the subjects lifted heavy weights.

The men who drank pomegranate juice experienced 25 percent less soreness 2 hours later, says lead study author Edward F. Coyle, Ph.D., F.A.S.C.M. After 48 hours, their strength was 10 percent greater than the placebo group."
